Unlike many of Korean immigrants books this book has a kimchi jar yet kimchi jar doesn t dominate Korean ness but serves a medium to portray a young Korean girl s friendship and imagination as a young person We need not so sad non immigration universal stories of Korean Asian people in the US and this book can contribute for that Too many sad voices in Korean diaspora literature so far because often it is written based on their own immigration experience or parentsgrandparents experiences Korean words here are authentic Cross cultural friendship with Hector and his abuelita are a positive side in the story Many of immigrants kids always hangout kids from the mainstream in previous Korean immigrants stories not other kids of minorities That is different in good ways
